THE FRANKTON BODY.

GOOD WORK ACCOMPLISHED. The Frankton Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Association is a public body fully alive to the development of that area of Hamilton, and was able to record a year of good progress at the annual meeting held last night, when the activities of the association were reviewed.

The annual report stated: On March 9, 1926, the Frankton Ratepayers’ Association and Frankton Citizens’ Association amalgamated, and the following officers were elected to conduct the Association: —President, Mr J. S. Anchor; vice-presidents, Messrs C. H. Warneford and P. ]J. Allsop; secretary, Mr V. S. Harris; assistant secretary and treasurer, Mr G. E. Tindlc; committee, Messrs B. 11. Andrews, F. Cooper-Smith, It. Green, T. A.. Hyde, J. Prcnton, and J. S. Rossi.

During the year Mr Allsop tendered his resignation as a vice-president, and Mr B. 11. Andrews was elected lo the position. Mr E. Pointon and Mr F. Derrick were elected to vacancies on the committee.

Eleven meetings have been held during the twelve months, and subjects as under have been considered, with a measure of success: (t) Frankton subway proposal, the Minister of Railways intimated he would take no action until after consultation with the association; (2) police representations made and subsequent appoint,nrent of ore additional policeman, and one sergeant in charge; (9) fire —a request was made for a sub-station at Frankton.

Railway crossing—A reputation waited oh the' stationmastcr with a view to having crossing improved by erection of signals and bilumenising of roadway. The Railway Department intend to improve the crossing at once. Ladies’ Rest Room: —Representations were made to the council, who intimated that the matter would be considered when new loan proposals were being made.

Footpaths.—Several 'footpaths in the borough were improved through the association’s .representations. Sewer Bylaw No. 6. —The association took action, resulting in a reduction of the fee by ss. Lighting.—Several lights have been provided and improved, also a reduction in electricity charges. An endeavour was made to have accounts paid in Frankton without result. Other subjects dealt with were licensing, bus regulations, Bowsers, approach to lake, and the electoral roll It has been gratifying to have the attendance of Councillors Gilbert, Denz, and Lafferty at several of the meetings held.

Membership.—So far the financial membership is small, and the association has had to curtail publicity on this account. But the activities of the committee have been well maintained, and progress has been most satisfactory. The Beautifying Association is to be congratulated on the general appearance of plots under its care in the Frankton area.

Borough Council.—Pleasure is expressed by the members of the association in the cordial manner in which the representations of the association have been met, showing that the council appreciate any genuine requests in the interests of this part of the borough. Election of Officers.

Officers were elected as follows for the ensuing year:—President, Mr J. S. Anchor; vice-presidents, Messrs C. ii. Warneford and J. Beazley; secretary, Mr V. S. Harris;; assistant secretary and treasurer, Mr G. E. Tindlc; committee, Messrs 11. Green, T. A. Hyde, F. Cooper-Smith, B. 11. Andrews, J. Prenton, J. S. Rossi, F. Derrick, and E. Poinion. Votes of thanks were accorded the chairman and outgoing officers.
