ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

JOCKEY INJURED. GISBORNE, Wedcsday. A horse ridden by a jockey, P. Atkins, collided with another whilst training. Atkins was thrown and ins ribs were broken. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. A young woman, Miss Hilda Ilynes, was knocked down by a motor car outside Ihe Alexandra Hotel in Parnell Road this morning. She sustained cuts to the back of the head, bruises and slight concussion. WANGANUI, Wednesday. A man. middle-aged, who has not yet been identified, was knocked down by a motor lorry in Glasgow Street extension early this morning. Ho was walking towards Springvale and Ihe lorry was coming towards the city. The driver stooped to make some adjustment. When he looked up he saw a pedestrian hut it was too late lo avoid an accident. Tne man was rendered unconscious and his arm was broken. He was sent lo Ihe hospital where, he died shortly after admission. The lorry was well lighted. Later. 'Phe victim of Ihe motor fatality today has been identified as lYanois William Mitchell, aged GG, married, who was employed as a pantry man al the Imperial Hotel. ASIIBURTON, Tuesday. Pclcr Barrio, a farmer, of Tinwald, had jacked a whare up for repairs and was underneath it when Ihe jack slipped. Mrs Barrio attempted lo loosen him by digging him out with a spade. Assistance came, and Mr Barrie was admitted lo Ihe hospital in a semi-conscious condition. TE PUKE, Tuesday. A well-known farmer at Paengaroa, Mr .lames Black, received severe burns on the hands and face as Ihe result of the accidental explosion of blasting powder, when he was engaged blasting trees for firewood.
