A step towards ending the coal deadlock has been taken by Air Evan Williams, chairman of the Goal Owners’ Association, who is inviting Mr Herbert Smilli, Llie president of Hie Miners’ Federation, lo meet him. HELP FROM RUSSIA. £400,000 RECEIVED. LONDON. June 4. In a speech tho general secretary of tho Minors’ Federation, Mr. A. ,T. Cook said: “Thank God for Russia. Last week I received a cheque for £270.000 from Russia.. To-day Ihe co-operative socieiies in Russia sent. £40.000 and the Central Union £70,000. That makes pearly £.100,000 \vn have received from Russia."
