SENSATIONAL BOOK
YOUNG GIRL AUTHOR. 30,000 COPIES SOLD. PROMINENT CRITICS DECEIVED. (Reuter.) (Received June 4, 1i.15 a.m.) LONDON. June 3. One of the sensations of the publishing season is the diary of a young lady of fashion 1704-05, of which 30,000 copies were sold in three months, it purported to be an authentic historical account, and deceived many critics, including Lord Darling, who expressed the opinion that tho 'dairy takes its place beside Popys.” It is now revealed that Hie book was written by Miss Magdalen King Hall, Hie 19-year-old daughter of a former Cornmnndor-in-Cllief of I lie Australian Squadron. Tile revelation is the more piquant because the book included a description of a lover's attempt to climb to a girl's bedroom at night, and other naughty episodes, which a girl just from seiiool is not supposed to ho familiar with. Miss King Hall says she wrote the book to escape boredom, and she admitted she had already made considerable money from the book. 'She said: “I have had a ‘bust,’ but die family is making me invest the rest.”
