SPEED TEST IN WELLINGTON. (By Teloprarh.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. On her trial trip on Wellington Harbour Mr Charles Perano's Aucklandbuilt speed launch Surprise showed a speed of 45 miles an hour. The launch was in competition with another speedy craft which does 35 miles an hour and uses 40 gallons of petrol hourly. The Surprise’s fuel consumption on a much higher speed is 18 gallons hourly.
The whaling season opens on June 1, and the Surprise will lie taken across the Straits immediately the weather is suitable.
