BREACH OF AWARD.

ADMISSION BY DEFENDANT. PENALTY OF FIVE POUNDS. A breach of the Arbitration Court award in employing a lad of IS years as a baker’s labourer at a wage of 25s per week, when the award rate was £2 per week, was admitted hy a Hamilton baker, Leonard Warwick Faville, in the Magistrate’s Court this morning.

The Inspector of Factories, Mr T. Wilson, said he had visited the defendant’s bakehouse in February, the lad having been there working since August, 192-5. The boy had now secured another position.

The defendant explained that the lad had been out of .work, and he had given him a position until he found employment. Witness was not aware of the lad’s age, and paid the wages Ihe boy had received on his previous job. Defendant pointed out that he wanted an apprentice, but the lad did not wish to learn the bakery trade. Tlic boy could leave at a moment's notice, and, in fact, had actually done so. His Worship gave judgment for a penally of £5.
