DESTRUCTION OF GAME.

. DAMAGE WROUGHT BY HAWKS.. PURCHASES OF FEET BY SOCIETY. The destruction of game through the depredations of the harrier hawk was referred to at a meeting of delepates to the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, held in Hamilton last evening. The chairman (Mr. C A. Whitney) report-id that cince May, £342 is had been paid by the Society for hawks' feet, this sum representing 13,688 pairs. He would like to know if delegates were still of opinion that the Society should continue to offer sixpence per pair for feet and if the fac f should be again advertised. It was apparent that sportsmen could not have the game and hawks too. The Auckland Society had done more than any other society in New Zealand to get rid of hawks. The Matamata delegate, Mr. Livingstone said he would like to see the Society continue to pay for hawks' feci' even if more than the sixpence was paid. There was no doubt that the hawks had been considerably reduced. Another delegate thought' hawks should be destroyed in the summer, when the young birds were being liberated. It was remarked by Mr. Whitney that the policy of the Society was to continue buying the feet. As time went on no doubt it would be necessary to pay more than the sixpence at present ruling. The meeting felt that'll was essential to keep at the destruction of hawks and authorised the Society to continue to purchase feet.
