SEASON FOR DEER.
REMOVING OF RESTRICTIONS. MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED. When the delegates to the Auckland Acclimatisation Society were discussing the fixing of the season for deer at a meeting in Hamilton last evening, one speaker said that iho talk about deer being responsible for the destruction of bush was "moonshine." Occasionally, he said, it was seen where a stag had barked a sapling by rubbing against it, but that was very seldom. The chairman said it had been suggested that the 1926 season be fr.om March 16 to May 13, but several speakers thought that deer were not plentiful in the Society's district, and that' the. season'might be shortened. Mr. Willis said there seemed an impression that the Government had removed restrictions regarding deer, but that was not so. Mr. Whitney said he had been assured that nothing would be done in the way of lifting restrictions until next deer season when the matter would be reconsidered. •. The 1926 season in- the Auckland district was fixed for the month of April.
