HAMILTONIAN ON TOUR.
.Mrs J. Prenton. who, with her husband, recently left Hamilton on a lour abroad, writes as follows lo a friend in Hamilton, her letter being dated from P..M.S. Makura, April '2o: "We are having a wonderful lime. We just happen to have struck the finest crowd of people on board that one could well imagine, and I should say that there hasn't been a lonely soul on the ship—everybody has been so jolly and nice. "Out- first port of call was Suva, and the first person I saw there was .Miss Rowlandson, formerly of the Hamilton High School. "After a further week on Ihe boat we reached Honolulu—and really no words could describe its many beauties and charm. 'The homes are very beautiful, with exquisite gardens, the vegetation of course, being tropical. II is just like one beautiful big garden. with the houses all dolled about. And yet Hie town is so modern. Each pave... uient consists of a strip of .concrete and strip of lawn, while most of Ihe streets are just avenues of palms. Wo dined id, Ihc famous .Moana Hotel, at Waikiki Beach, and if America can show us anything more beautiful and joyous than Honolulu then there is surely some great treat in store for us. . . . . To 10.000 white people there are iO.OOO coloured people living Ihere, and as most of the .laps, etc., still wear their national costumes Mr: streets are quite an interesting sight.
j Everybody owns his own car, from the ! humblest workman upwards, and the I roads are all macadamised. . . Honoj lulu is wonderfully beautiful. 1 "Wo have had lots of good music I on (lie ship, and Ihe usual fancy dress j had!, sports, etc. We have the famous ! Drs. Mayo and Martin on board and several other American doctors, an t i Ihey have all been very charming. ] "This is the trip we have planned through America :—Vancouver three. days, Banff one day, Lake Louise one day, Minneapolis one day, St. Paul one day, Chicago three days, Detroit one day, Niagara two days. New York three days. Boston three days. Mon- ; (real two days. Then, heigh-ho! for England and Ihe Continent." High Roads
