FATALITY AT WAIUKU.
MR W. BARRIBALL KILLED,
WAIUKU, Tuesday. A prominent and highly-respected pioneer settler of Waiuku, Mr William Barriball, was killed this morning through a fall from a cart. Mr Barriball was driving to Bald Hill to visit his son Mr Ivor Barriball, and as ho was standing up in his trap, when about to pass through a gateway, a severe jolt caused him to overbalance and fall heavily to the ground. Medical aid was obtained, but life was found to be extinct, death having probably been instantaneous, as deceased had sustained a dislocated neck. Mr Barriball, who had resided in the Waiuku district for the last 60 years, was in his 73rd year. He was the fourth son of the late Mr Charles Barriball, and was born in Auckland. Prior to his retirement a few years ago Mr Barriball was engaged in farming at Bald Hills, some miles from Waiuku, but lately he resided in the township’. Mr Barriball took great interest in local affairs, and was a prominent member of the Waiuku Methodist Church for many years. As a young man he was an enthusiastic member of the district volunteers, and enjoyed a reputation as a marksman. Mr Barriball leaves a widow, two sons and two daughters.
