OLD MASTERS AT AUCTION. SIR J. R. ROBINSON'S COLLECTION. 'A REQORD FOR CHRISTIE'S. Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. LONDON, July 7. One of the biggost picture sales ever held in England occurred at Christie's to-day, when Sir J. B. Robinson's collection of old masters was auctioned. The room was packed by Art Society folk, The sensation of the afternoon was the sale, of Franz Hats Portrait of a Gentleman for £19,950, compared wilh,Clooo obtained for it in ISBS. Rembrandt's Portrait of an Old Man sold for ll.aOOgns; four panels by Boucher for 18,000gns; Gainsborough's Mrs Drummond, £lO,500; Sir T. Lawrence's portrait of Lancy, £8923; Reynolds' portrait of Mrs Matthew, £B4OO. The day's total £205,000, was a record for Christie's. The pictures went to private collections, mostly in Britain.
