SEVERE WEATHER.
CONDITION IN WAIKATO. Wintry conditions prevailed in Waikato during the week-end. The Maungatautari and Pirongia mountains were covered with one of the heaviest falls of snow ever seen on these hills. SNOW ON MAIN TRUNK. A feature of the exceptionally cold weather during the past two or three days has been the heavy snow-fall experienced along the route of the Main Trunk railway line on the high levels in the centre of the. island'. The fall has been very heavy between Raurimu and Waimarino and the country nortli of Taihape. As the train from Wellington to Auckland was passing through these districts on Saturday evening snow was falling heavily. At two or three of the stations passengers and indulged in snowballing for a few minutes. The snowfall covered the ground to the extent of about six inches. RAINFALL IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ' AUCKLAND, Monday. The weather continues cold, with heavy rain squalls. The rainfall for the 48 hours-to midnight was 0.92, and for the month till 9 a.m. on Saturday 6.62. SEVERE FROST AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The severest frost experienced this season occurred this morning, 13.4 degrees being registered. A bitterly cold southerly is blowing to-night.
