DISTRICT NEWS.
WAITETUNA-RAGLAN. There was a “large congregation waiting in St. Paul’s Church, To, Uku, on a rtecent Sunday afternoon, but no parson turned up. It was afterwards found out that the vicar was all the time busily engaged in extricating his motor-car from the clinging, mud of the. Kauroa- deviation. At this time of year the parson’s car should he fitted with a wireless apparatus, with receiving stations at each of the churches, in order that the parishioners may know his whereabouts in case it should be necessary to send out the S.O.S. Euchre and Danoe. The To Mata Tennis Club held their second euchre party and dance last week, and although not largely attended owing to the threatening weather, it was much enjoyed by those present. Miss F. Bregmcn took the ladies’ prize for euchre and Mr C. Nesbitt the men’s, Miss McCracken taking the ladies’ booby and Mr McCabe the men’s booby prize. The rest of the evening was given up to dancing. Mr E. Jerome supplied firstclass music on the accordeon, assisted by Mrs Nicholson, Miss M. Brown and Mr G. McQueen (piano). ! Hookey. The Okcte hockey team played Raglan at Okete last week, when the score was Okete 1 goal, Raglan i goal. Miss Harrant scored for Okete and Miss Cameron for Raglan. The umpires were Messrs Norris and Burgess.
