MINES CLOSING DOWN. MEN'B IRRITATION TACTICS. FEDERATION'S ADVICE IGNORED. United Press Association. SYDNEY, April 11. The colliery owners in the Northern fields have decided to close the mines at which the miners struck until some guarantee of continuity is given. Over 6000 men are idle. Four Aberdeen collieries have been closed and the 'horses withdrawn. Others are following suit. It is understood that a special meeting of the Northern proprietors, called to consider the position, decided that individual managers should act as they thought At at present, but in the event of further trouble unified action would be taken to defeat the men's irritation tactics.
The council of the Miners' Federation advised the miners to abandon their present tactics, fearing that they may result in the Government seizing the present situation as an excuse for discontinuing the Coal Tribunal. The miners, however, ignored the advice and appear determined to precipitate a crisis, with its attendant general struggle. ■ The mechanics in several pits have now joined the strikers.
