The weather is fine, but the going is fairly heavy for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting. There is a large attendance. Results: —
High-Weight Handicap, 1J miles. — Soulterina (9.0) 1, Royal Gift (9.11) 2, Urgency (10.10) 3. Scratched: Malingerer, Gtenshine, Gladful, Lady Waimangu, First Born. Won by a neck, with haff a length between second and third. Time, 2.12.
N.Z. St. Leger, If miles. —Rapine 1, Many Kittle 2, Zouave 3. The only starters. " Won by six lengths, with 10 lengths between second and third. Time, 3.4. Plunket Nursery, 5 furlongs.— Parody (8.9) 1, Bugle Note (7.10) 2, Last Crust (6.12) 3. Scratched: Orofino and Glandhu. Won by half a length. Time, 1.1 2-5. THOMPSON HANDICAP, 1 mile. ' Highland (7.13) 1 Gold Light (8.2) 2 Quest (7.5) 3 Scratched: Listowel and Taiparu. THE MATAFJ3ATA MEETING. IRENE BRUCE WINS THE CUP. (Special to Times.) MATAMATA, Thursday. The annual meeting of the Matamata Racing Club was held to-day in fine weather. There were record acceptances and a large attendance cf patrons Results: —

Silent Knight, 7.10, 2 Abeam, 7.10, 3 Also started: —Te Hoe, King Poto, Kaikahu, Neuritis, Ebhlin, Eruba, Larryowen, Nultini, Princess Abbey, Miss LignOt, Wild Wave, Lady Petain, In a good sized field Queen Albyn got through to have an advantage of two lengths from Silent Knight at the winning post, Abeam being a similar distance away, third. TAIHOA HACK HANDICAP, of 2D sovs. Seven furlongs. Peter Rosa, 8.9 Grandiose, 8.7
Menance, 8.9 3 Also started: Sussex, Abberfield, Rarangi, Princess Charming, Silver Bonus, Richon and Formateen. Peter Rosa soon hit the front, and maintained his advantage, to win by a length and a-half, with two lengths separating second and third. Time, lmin. 29 4-sscc.
MATAMATA CUP HANDICAP, of 40 sovs. and cup valued at 10 sovs. One mile and a-quarter.

When the field moved off Morrin Abbey was the first to hit the front, but French Park shortly took up the running. Irene Bruce gradually improved her position, and, taking charge before the end of a mile, earned on to win by four lengths, with a length and a-half between second and third. Uncle Sam was fourth. Time, 2rain. 10 4-osec. AUCKLAND APPEAL CASES. AUCKLAND, Thursday. It is understood that the appeals lodged respectively with the Racing Conference by Messrs J. A. C. Fleming and L. Boles against the disqualification imposed upon them by the Auckland District Committee will be heard at Wellington to-morrow.
