FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.

t The fortnightly meetipg. of the Hamilton Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by His "Worship the Mayor (Mr J. R. Fow), and Crs. 0. R. Farrer, J. A. Brind, A. J. Denz, A. E. Webb, H. E. Tristram, H. B. Jeniiin, J. Gilbert, B. C. Lowry, and J. E. Tidd. Leave of absence was granted, Gr. Barton.

Licenses Issued. , Messrs A. H. Burn, G. E. Smith, E. Rice and S. Partridge were granted motor driver's licenses, and J. G. Greig a second-hand dealer's license. Two Indians, Hedrami and Gloolamchudin, were granted licenses to hawk fruit and vegetables. Motor Truck Running.

A report by the gasworks engineer showed that the running expenses of the motor-truck from April, 1932, to March 31, 1923, was £324 10s sd. This concerned a total running time of 1996 hours at a cost of 3s 3d per hour. - It was pointed out that this included the driver's wages. The Mayor, in moving that the report lie on the table, remarked upon its very complete nature, and said that it was the way all reports of the nature should be compiled. Suggestion not Suitable. A communication was reoeived from Mr J. Smyth, asking that the plot at the corner of Firth and Albert Street be called Anzac Plot, in memory of deceased soldiers.- It was suggested that the plot, which the writer would tend to, should bear the motto ."Lest we forget." •' i While recognising the good work the writer had performed on this and another plot, for which the Council and ratepayers felt grateful, it was recognised that it would not be suitable to give effect to the laudable object suggested.

General Matters.

Mr Douglas McCaw, surveyor, asked the Council to approve of the subdivision of Lot 218, Claudelands, for Mr F. C. Daniell. —The application was granted. Mr J. Enerson offered to sell the Couneil a house built in Pembroke Street on a borough lease section for £l2so.—The Council received the application. The Waikato and King Country Press, Ltd., asked the Council to agree to the subdivi&ion of lot 9 of allotment 455, Hamilton Borough, and to issue two new leases under the Public Leasing Act—/The application was agreed to.

Mr P. P. White, writing in regard to relinquishing portion of his section along the River Path at Hamilton East, stated that as the piece of land was of greater area than at first supposed he was not disposed to continue the matter on the terms indicated in his letter of sth ult. If the Council made a fair offer the writer would be prepared to favourably consider it. —The communication was received.

The Council fixed the salary of the clerk to the Hamilton Licensing Committee at £lO. The tender of Messrs Mason and Purchase at £326 for sewer and stormwater construction - between Dawson and Beale Street, Hamilton East, was accepted.
