EMPIRE EXHIBITION

ALL QUITE SATISFACTORY.

DOMINIONS’ INTERESTS SAFE

SIR J; COOK’S ASSURANCES

(Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, Nov. 20.

Sir Joseph Cook, High Commissioner for Australia, in an interview with reference lo the Empire Exhibition, said: “After my experience on the management committee and executive council, both of \vhich v l have attended, I may say that things are moving forward on quite satisfactory lines. At Friday’s meeting of the executive council I stated the pbsition on behalf of the Commonwealth in very clear and emphatic terms. I insisted that this was an exhibition designed to promote the interests and popularise thd products of the dominions, and under no cir■cumslances should the dominions.consent to any product being used in the Exhibition other than our own. We should most certainly insist that everything in our own pavilions should be our own' production, nad as far as practicable everything in every other section should be the product of some part of the Empire. Having regard to the number of complaints and criticisms, some of which come from disappointed tenderers, the council decided that, after the fullest inquiry', a statement should be issued.”

Sir Joseph Copk added: “The dominions might take it for granted that with tire Duke of Devonshire at the head of the executive and with all the Dominions represented upon both the executive council and the management committee by the High Commissioners, the interests of the dominions will not be disregarded in the slightest degree.” He was fully convinced that the Duke was entirely in!sympathy with the wishes of the dominions.
