CONGRESS MEETS
AN AGED WOMAN SENATOR.
SOLDIERS, BOMBS AND BEER,
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) WASHINGTON, November 20.
The special session of the Senate adjourned immediately, and is now awaiting President Harding’s message, which will be presented on Tuesday. Mrs W. 11. Felton, aged 87, the first woman Senator, took her seat amidst a demonstration. In the Lower Mouse the “wets" lost no time in launching a fight for the enactment of the Soldiers' Bonus Bill. The bonus is to be paid out of the tax on legalised beer.
Representative Hill (Republican) proposed the re-enactment of adjusted compensation, a measure which was killed by the Presidential veto last summer. He suggests 20 cents per gallon on 2.75 per cent beer in order to raise the bonus funds.
