SCARE IN SYDNEY
WOMEN DOPED IN THE STREET. THREE'CASES REPORTED, IS IT PURELY IMAGINATION? (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) SYDNEY, November 21. ( Following a similar Melbourne scare, the Sydney police are investigating the cases of three women who reported that while standing or walking in the streets they felt a sudden stinging sensation, and subsequently suffered from faintness, and discovered a slight wound. The supposition is that a hypodermic syringe was used to inject dope with ulterior motives. In one Sydney case at least a medical examination is stated to have disclosed traces of morphia. The scare became so catching in Melbourne, and so many cases were reported, that the police published a statement that the scare was the result of hysterical imagination, and that there was no proof that a syringe or dope had been used. The scare then petered out.
The Sydney police disapprove of publicity being given to what they consider! is largely an imaginative, happening.
