Mr T. H. Patterson, of the Department of Agriculture, is in Hamilton. Mr E. Clifton, of Auckland, is si visitor to Hamilton for the Show.
Mr C. East, editor of the Northern Advocate, Whangarei, is a visitor to the Show.
The King has appointed the Earl of Cromer Lord Chamberlain, and the Earl of Shaftebsury Lord Steward. Sir James Allen, High Commissioner for New Zealand, Is run down and. is recuperating in Devon for a fortnight.
Mr D. Elliot, ' who hs been stook inspector in the Cambridge district for some considerable time past, is being transferred to Auckland, and will leaveCambridge shortly. Dr. M. D. Price, is leaving Rotorua for Mangonui about the middle of next week, having accepted the position of superintendent of the hospital there. Dr. Price has been in Rotorua for four and a-half years.
The death is announced from London of Mr Austin Brereton, the well-known journalist and dramatic critic, who for two /years. 1889 to 1891, was on the staff of the Sydney Morning Herald. A cable message from Sydney states that Mr C. E. Weigall, of the Government Law Department, has .been . f appointed Solicitor-General, an office V which has been vacant since the formation of the present Government. The appointment carries no Ministerial salary.
A Wellington message states, that Colonel J. Pow, who has been general secretary of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association for the past three years, has been appointed secretary to the .New Zealand Farmers’ Union, suc-r ceeding Mr E. C. Jack (resigned).
