MURDER IN POVERTY BAY.
INDIAN HAWKER'S DEATH BODY FOUND UNDER LOGS. ROBBERY THE MOTIVE. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association). OPOTIKI. Thursday. Suspicious circumstances surround the death of the Assyrian hawker, Zanr Bukka. Bukka was travelling with three horses, two being used as pack horses. The police received word that the horses were wandering in the bush with the packs ritled, and the saddle horse was on the opposite bank witU a stirrup and bridle missing. Bukka is said to have had £l5O in cash in addition to stock. In a subsequent search Zam Bukka's body was found on the river bed under a heap of lops, with the head bashed. The money was missing. Detective McLeod arrived from Gisbornc this morning, and is carrying on investigationsGUNSHOT WOUNDS IN HEAD. VALUABLES MISSING. Bv Telegraph.—Pr<-.=s Association. GISBORNE, Friday. . Particulars received in Gisborne last night in connection with the Zam Bukka ease go to show that there was foul play. Inspector Hutton, who is on the spol. says that he is convinced that the man was murdered. The body bore evidence of violence, there being gunshot wounds in the head and other wounds on the face. Al present the amount of money in the possession of deceased is a matter of guesswork, but his watch and chain ore known for certain to have been taken from Zam Bukka. At the post mortem examination at Opotiki, yesterday afternoon, gunshol was extracted from the skull. The scene of the tragedy is one of the most isolated spots in Hie Bay of Plenty, twenty miles away through dense bush, with only ,-| bridle track from Opotiki. The only residents near are tiiose on one station. There is a small native pa and a native township at Omaio Bay. *
