The need for more skilled tradesmen was stressed by a deputation from the North Canterbury Hospital Board which waited on the Minister of Health. If sound health was sought more houses must, be built- Private enterprise would build bouses if the Government would see that, more tradesmen were, avail ■ able. New Zealand could do with 10,000 bricklayers, joiners, plumbers, coopers, ironmoulders, and paperhangers. The Minister said tie would represent the view expressed to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education. He was having great difficulty in building schools at a reasonable cost, the conliraclors having told him that 11. was very difficult to gel tradesmen, especially plasterers.
