BRITISH POLITICS

SUPPORT FOR LORD GREY. LORD ROBERT CECIL’S APPEAL. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, October 12. Lord Robert Cecil, in a letter to the Press, supports Lord Grey’s criticisms of the Government. He says we want an administration with a clear and definite programme to pursue its even way undisturbed by passing gusts of popular excitement, and he suggests Lord Grey as a man to lead such an administration. Lord Robert Cecil is prepared to co-operate with him, and he urges all others who think similarly to a joint effort to restore to Britain an administration which will give security and command confidence. Lord Robert Cecil has also sent a letter to his constituents covering the same ground as his letter to the press. He says: “Lords Grey’s speech at Berwick on Monday deserves to be carefully weighed. No one can doubt that his criticism of the Government is wellfounded. It is not true there is no alternative to the present Government. I cannot think of any Government that would be worse. What is wanted is high character, sober judgment, and freedom from party prejudice. I am prepared to co-operate with Lord Grey despite the fact that he is a Liberal.”
