SERBIA'S THRONE
A HALF-HEARTED KING DESIRES TO ABDICATE. PREFERS FRANCE TO SERBIA. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received October 13. 5.40 p.m. LONDON, October 12. The Daily Express’ Paris correspondent states: “A sensational story has been published that King Alexander of Serbia has abdicated in favour of his older brother George, adding that M. Pashitch had a three-hours’ interview with Alexander, but failed to move him, despite all appeals. Though the Serbian Legation denies the story, my personal inquiries at Trianon Palace, w’here the Serbian King is staying, suggest that, the story is true. The place swarms with French and Serbian police. I believe King Alexander will never be King, except in name. He goes daily in fear of assassination. It is true he has been ill, but he is not suffering from appendicitis. The truth is the King has not formally abdicated, but has told Prince George that he can have the throne it ho wants it. King Alexander prefers ‘Versailles to Belgrade.”
