MONTHLY MEETING, | The monthly meeting of the Waikalo County Council was "held at Hamilton East yesterday. There were present: , Crs. J. P. Bailey (in the chair), W. Newcll, T. Clarkin, Goodwin, Henry. T. Hinton, and tho clerk, Mr T. B. Insoll. An apology was received from Cr. Thomas, who had recently undergone an operation. Electric License. The Central Electric Power Board i applied for assistance in having 'canceiled the license held by Hamilton Borough Council over a portion of the hoard's district.—lt was decided, on : (Tie motion of Cr- Bailey and seconded by Cr. Goodwin, to support the Power j Board In the matter. Forwarding Charges. Messrs Andersons Ltd., Christchurch, wrote re the forwarding charges, £7 7s lid, on the Aurora road grader supplied by them. They (Andersons) as-, sorted that the term in the verbal agreement was that they were to deliver f.o.b. at Lytlelton, but as this was not staled in the written order they would pay half the charges-—Offer accepted. Komakorau Road Loan. Mr G. F. C. Campbell, Superintendent of the State Advances Office, Wellington, notified that the payment of the £3OOO of the loan applied for would soon be made. This was dated September 22, but the clerk reported that the amount had not yet arrived. Road Roller. Messrs Booth, MacDonald and Co., Ltd., wrote that they could supply an Austin moloc road-roller and scarifier at £2350, on terms. —The letter was received, one councillor remarking that in the way of machinery the less they bought at the present, lime the better. Waikoto Bridge, Ngaruawahia. The Assistant Under-Secretary of The Public Works Department informed the Council that it was proposed to vest the exclusive care, control and management of the Waikato River bridge at Ngaruawahia in the Council, and the control of the approaches in the Ngaruawahia Borough Council. It was further pointed out that the bridge and its approaches had been completed and were in good order, with the exception of the asphalting of the footpath on the Ngaruawahia borough side. The asphalt was being left for a few months until the weather was more satisfactory and the footpath set. —Letter received, the opinion being expressed that it was a peculiar proposal. Supply of MetalThe superintendent of the Auckland Prison notilied that he could supply the Council's requirements of 2Ain. metal, machine broken, at 6s 9d pfir yard, and hand-broken at 7s 3d per yard on trucks, with ah additional 3d per yard shunting fees. —Received. Tariff Exhibition. Messrs Andersons Ltd., Christchurch, reminded the Council of the Tariff Exhibition to be held at Wellington, commencing about October 22, when New Zealand manufacturers would navy goods on view.—Received. Rangiriri Bridge Approach. Mr Jas. Iliggins (engineer) wrote that it had been decided to improve the ■ formation up to the Rangiriri bridge and put on an additional six inches of metal. The writer requested that the clerk should approach the Public Works Department and find out if the money was available. —It was decided that if the Raglan County Council approved the work be done. The Horotiu Bridge. Mr J. B. Grant, contractor of Tauplrl, waited on the Council # in connection with the Horotiu bridge.' He said that the stormwatcr continued to wash away the fillings of the Horotiu bridge. —Decided to wait for the engineer's report before proceeding further on the matter. General. Messrs Hyde and Son, Taupiri, notified that they were in need of a new iron truck for the Taupiri quarry. It was stated the truck was now on order. Mr R. W. G. Rutturfurd, Taupiri, called attention to the growth of blackberries over the approach to the bridge across the Mangawaru river on Rutturfurd's road. If the blackberries caught alight damage would be done to Hie bridge.—A man is to be sent to clear the road. It was decided to grant the use of a grader to Mr T. Grinter, contractor on Baggerly's Toad. Mr J. Dooley, Hopahopa, applied for permission to lower the drain-pipes in front of his properly. The pipes in their present position caused pools of water to gather in front of his house— Granted. It was decided to reduce the grade in Winter's hill one foot in four. The Clerk of Works, Taupiri, wrote that he expected to finish the concrete work in connection with Waikariri stream culvert by the 14th inst. H<3 requested to know whether the Council would engage him to do the balance of filling on both sides of the culvert, the filling under the old bridge and removal of the bridge; also the placing of metal on the roadway, together with olhcr work. —It was recognised that the applicant had done good work, and it was decided to retain his services for another fortnight.
