AUSTRALIAN RACING A.J.C. SPRING MEETING, DAVID AND FURIOUS WIN (United Press Association.) Received October !), 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, October 8. The attendance on the final day of the Australian Jockey Club's Spring meeting, held to-day, was 40,000. The weather was cloudy until the Randwick Plato, when it rained steadily until the finish. The weather somewhat depressed patrons, who were already down-spirited through inability to anticipate the Judge's verdict. There wore only four starters in the Plate, and David never looked like losing. The Steeplechase provided an exhibition of fine jumping. Pine Park and Compromise fell. Both were well backed. From a racing standpoint the meeting was a big success. A quarter of a million people attended the four days’ Uandwick meeting, and the lotalisntor takings were ‘.MU7.ooo —both records. Following arc the results of the principal events;— Canonhury Stakes, five furlongs.— Frosty Morn (8.0) 1, Tercbcn (8.5) 2, Myositis (8,0) 3. Won by threequarters of a length. Swift Shot took charge and led until the straight was reached, David coming away at the distance and winning easily by a length, with half a-length between second and third. Time 3.293. Clihhorn Stakes. —Furious (8.0) 1, Honey Bee (8.5) 2, Popaway (8.0) 3. Bebehcad was first to show out, but was overtaken at Hie lop of the straight by Furfous. who won easily by two lengths. EURYTHMIC B EATS TANGALOOMA. DEMETRIUS WINS GUINEAS. (United Press Association.) Received October 9, 5.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, Saturday. For the opening day of (he Victorian Amateur Turf Club, Caulfield, to-day, the weather was dull with occasional showers. There was a large attendance. Charlecote led into lhc straight in the Debutant Stakes, and won comfortably from an outsider, Bawra. Gascrta was a close third. Charlecote cost 150 guineas, and lias started twice, being unbeaten. It is a second outside the race record. Charccolc is engaged in the Maribyrnoug. There was a heavy shower before the Caulfield Stakes. Horses and riders were drenched, but the weather cleared for the race. Euryihmic and Tungalooma made Hie pace to the straight, where Euryihmic went on and won comfortably from Tungalooma. The winner was loudly cheered. He covered the last half mile in 48 seconds. Hurythnhc’s stake total is now £26,788. The Caulfield Guineas was run during a heavy shower. Demetrius led over the last seven furlongs, and won easily. He covered the first half mile in 50* seconds, and the last half in 50}. Demetrius cost £525. The winner was ridden by the ex-Ncw Zealander, Cairns. Demetrius will be a Derby and a Cup candidate. Battleplane led early in lhc Toorak Handicap. The favourite, Stare," event to the front at the. distance, and won easily. Following arc the results: —

Time 49-Isees, Caulfield Slakes. —Eurythmic (9.4) 1, Tangalooma (9.1) 2, Amazonia (9.1) 3. Five starters. Won by one and ahalf lengths with two • and a-half lengths separating second and third. Time 1.56 A. CAULFIELD GUINEAS. Demetrius, 8.5 (R. Cairns) . . 1 Sefton, 8.5 (F. Dcnlpsey) .. 2 Isa, 8.0 (R. Lewis) 3 Eleven starters. Won by three lengths, two lengths separating second and third. Time 1.42. Toorak Handicap.—Stare (6.13) 1, Pannikin (6.9) 2, Battleplane (8.7) 3. Twenty-one starters. Won by three and a-half lengths, three-quarters of a length between second and third.
