DEAL IN NATIVE LANDS
MEETING OF MAORI OWNERS. MOTION TO DISPENSE WITH IT. ARGUMENT IN COURT OF APPEAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Friday. The Court of Appeal this morning heard argument in a motion for a writ of certiorari, removed into the Court of Appeal for argument. The matter arose out of a recommendation of the Waiariki Maori Land Board in the mailer of certain transfers from Reweti Ngalai and other natives to Albert John Rhodes. Sir Francis Bell, K.C., AtlorncyGeneral, appeared in support of H e motion, and with him Mr Preudeville, and Mr .M. 11, Hampson appeared to oppose.
Sir F. Bell, in support of a motion lo quash the recommendation of Urn Land Board, said that the effect of the judgment and reconimendalion of the Hoard would he, in many rases, lo defeat, the intention of the Native Land Aid, as to the necessity for a meeting of the assembled owners as a eomhlion precedent to Hie transfer of native land held by more than ten owners. Argument is proceeding.
