APPLICANTS FOR WATER

TROUBLES WILL SOON END. ENGINEER'S PROMISE. Some measure of consolation to residents awaiting the connection of their houses with the water mains w r as given by the Borough Electricity and Water Engineer, at a meeting of the Council last night. A question was asked by Gr. Laffcrty as to when many of the applications were likely to be fulfilled. Mr Reeves explained that there were several causes for the delay. His gang had been chiefly employed of late in disconnecting the houses attaciied to the rising malar and connecting them with the street level, as the occupiers of these houses had been considerably amove, | by the knocking in their pipes during the hours of pumping. This work was now about completed, and when a job now in hand at Frankton was finished, he would go right bn With the new connections, and Imped soon to have all the present applications completed, though additional ones were coming in all the time. He had been hampered a good deal by shortage of piping, and could not put more than one gang on for this reason, as well as for the reason also that he could not get duplicate sets of tools for them to work with. C'r. Barton said he hoped the engineer's statement would be given full publicity, as it would probably relieve the councillors of a lot of the annoyance of people constantly ringing and holding them up over their troubles in this direction.
