SOLDIERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES.
ACCEPTED BY AUSTRALIANS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, Jan. 7. The Report on the administration of the Australian G.O.C. Fund, since September, when it was handed over from headquarters, shows that the Board of Control restricted its use to relieve necessitous 1 cases of unmarried mothers. The fund in September amounted to £2449. The Board has since investigated 368 cases, and approved of 14 ( . Two hundred and twenty-five other applications were re-, ceived and £7OO distributed. At least 90 per cent of the applications were from women oi clean reputation previously. Wherever possible the soldier responsible was paraded, and a large proportion of the rejections were due to the manner in which the soldiers offered to shoulder the responsibility. In no instance was there any attempt at evasion.
