An official denial is given to Hie report that the Government contemplated entirely prohibiting Hie export of news print. Canadian newspapers use 20 per cent, of the output, and the remaining 80 per cent, must be exported or the industry close down. Ihc Government’s oulv object in interfering is to sec that Canadian papers get ran supplies as a first call, and will not interfere with the balance. There is reason to believe- that the Pacific Coast mills will continue supplying Australasia this year substantially on the same bams as last year, but publishers everywhere realise that prices arc rising with the acute scarcity, and all slocks have been wiped out, even the richest newspapers having to be content with hand-to-mouth supplies. Certainly there is no hope of Australasia getting more paper than she lias been receiving from Canada.
