MANY WORKS CLOSED
INQREASEP RAILWAY FREIGHTS
(United Press Association.) Received January 5, 10.20 p.m. SYDNEY, January 5. Owing to the increased railway freights' imposed at the beginning of the year, Mr Hoskins’ Lithgow iron works have stopped work, throwing 750 employees idle. The Railway Commissioners are considering a readjustment of freights, failing which over 1000 will be idle. (United Press Association.) Received January 6, 10.55 a.m. •" SYDNEY, Jan. 6.
Mr Hoskins has closed all the works at Lithgow and elsewhere, rendering 3000 idle, and unless the increase of freight is suspended, it will be impossible to reopen them.
