THE GOAL DISPUTE

“GO-SLOW” POLICY STILL IN FORCE ACCENTUATION PROBABLE. MR MASSEY NEGOTIATING. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The situation in the coal industry lias not changed during the holidays, but there are indications that developments may occur in the near future. The miners have been going slow for several months now in support of their demand for drastic changes in the terms and conditions of labour in the coal mines, and the loss of production has 'been very large .indeed. It is reported that the miners are threatening now to reduce their output still fuflhci, and if that should occur a crisis would arise. The Prime Minister has been in communication with both miners and mine owners, suggesting a further conference. The owners consider such a conference unnecessary, in view of the full and open discussion which took place last year, but they are willing to meet the miners’ delegates again on certain conditions; one condition is i/hat prior to such conference there must be a resumption of normal working methods in the mines.
