WONDERFUL ESCAPE
A STOCCAL CHAUFFEUR. (By T olograph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Friday. A chauffeur, named Purion, while attempting to hom’d the Main Trunk express to-day before it stopped at the station in order to secure a seat for a lady passchger, fell between the platform and the train. Purton had a miraculous escape from death, being caught between the interlocking points on the ground and the compensation bar of the bogie, which rejects over the wheels. When rescued from his death trap, he was found to be suffering from a bad scalp wound, a blackened eye, and an ugly cut under the jaw. He had also lost several teeth. Despite his injuries, Purton remained conscious,displaying -great stoicism A depression in the ground where Purton was caught by the carriage prevented him being crushed to death.
