In the Face of a Gale.
INDRALEMA'S ROUGH TRIP. A MILE IN TWENTY HOURS. SEAMAN INJURED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The steamer Indr-a-lema came in from Napier this afternoon fortyeight hours late. She had a heavy passage, and at one time was for over twenty hours only making one mile an hour with full steam ahead. Captain Walks was on 'the bridge practically the whole time since his ship cleared Napier at 4.30 p.m. on Monday, and over twenty hours was occupied in trying to get round CaPe Palliser. The Indralema was kept well out to sea, and so fierce was the gale that for a considerable time she had to remain hove-to. Heavy seas were shipped fore and aft and the engines raced very heavily in spite of the fact that the governors were on. All gear was lashed to the' deck, but nevertheless everything movable was swept by the seas, much of it 'being lost overboard.
During the height of the gale mountainous sens washed on board, and smashing the butcher's shop to pieces, swept i t and half a ton of meat overboard. The ibfulwarks were broken in several places and a derrick carried away.
One of the crew was washed agrainst a ventilator and was severely bruised in places. He was attended to on board and is progressing satisfactoriiy.
