BOROUGH IMPROVEMENTS.

EXTENSIVE SCHEME. WORKS TO BE UNDERTAKEN. The extensive scheme of improvements in the Borough, which were briefly outlined as suggestions, by Cr. Barton, a month or so ago, were considered by the Council a week ago, sitting in committee, wheai the following recommendations were made awd submitted for confirmation at last night's meeting of the Council. The recommendations were approved. Present at the committee meeting, were the Mayor and Crs. Atkin, Roche, Manning, Barton, English and Tidd.. The recommendations were as follows : Baths.—That the suggestions of a concrete bath on the river bank be approved and that plans be prepared by engineer for a bath at a cost not to exceed £10(10, and that a suitrcoonmittee (Crs. Atkin, Barton, Tristram and the Mayor) be set up to consult with engineer on the matter. Fire Fighting Equipment.—That a sub-committee (the Mayor and Crs. Booth, Manning and Fow) report on the matter, and that the committee have power to take professional advice if nesessary. Street formation and lighting.— That matters of (T, Street and footpath formation and (2) street lighting, be referred to a sub-committee c< nsisting of Crs. Roche, Booth, and Barton and the Mayor, and that a scheme be devised for the sanitary drainage of the whole of east and west Hamilton ; that Mr Metcalfe be asked to furnish a report on the matter of sanitary drainage and waterworks extensions •; ' that a sub-com-mittee (the Mayor and Crs. Atkin, Barton and Tristram; confer with Mr Metcalfe. Sanitation of saleyards.—That the borough engineer report on the matter of saleyards sanitation. Surface drainage.—That the matter ije referred to the borough engineer for a report. Municipal offices.—That Council invite competitive designs for municipal buildings and that a sub.committee (the Mayor and Crs. Atkin and Barton with Town Clerk) report to Council : that the committee be empowered to obtain professional advice and incur other expense incidental to the furnishing of the report. Abattoirs—That a committee (the Mayor and Crs. Fow, English, Manning and Tidd) report. Gasworks extensions. —That the matter of increased gasworks plant be referred to the gasworks committee for a report. Reserves and foreshore improvements—That a committee '.Messrs Manning-, Atkin, Booth and Roche) report ion the matter- ,7hat the liorough engineer be allowed a commission of 5 per cent n<n the cost of any works paid for out of loan monev and carried out under supervision of the borough engineer and for which payments are made on his certificate. Cr. Barton said he hoped the above matters would bte taken seriously in hand and that the committes would meet, a<nd perform the duties expected of them.
