HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

ORDINARY MEETING. The Mayor, Mr J. A. Young, presided over the ordinary meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council, last night. There were also present—Crs. Atkin, Roche, Fow, English, Booth, Barton, Tristram, Tidd and Manning. EXCHANGE OF LAND. Tijj Department of Lands wrobi agreeing, t-; Ih3 exchange of pt. s!)a for pt. 70/2, West Hamilton. SALE OF DEBENTURES. W. Frater and Son enquired if commission would be allowed to brokers on sale on borough debentures. —It was decided to grant tho applicants brokerage at bank ratts, 011 certain conditions. SIGNBOARD ERECTION. J. T. Browne and Co. asked pered permission to -erect a signibbard and put in box culvert. —Referred to the Works Committee. PLAN FOR SIGNATURE Mr A. Swarhrick forwarded to be sealed by the Council, a plan of sections fronting Hardly-street.— Seal /to be affixed. FOOTPATH FORMATION. A. C. Williamson asked for a footpath in Nixon-street.—Referred' to the Works Committee, with power to aot. WATER FOR BUILDING. Messrs McKi n non and Paterson applied for water for building purposes in W.ellingiton-street.—Granted on conditions. TREASURER'S REPORT. The treasurer's report showed total receipts since last statement (amounting to £lGoti, a nd expenditure at £1177. DRIVER'S LICENSE. James Wilson was .granted a, dsi veer's license temporally. BROKER'S LICENSE. Mr Ghampney was granted a sec-end-hand dealer's license. INDEMNITY INSURANCE. The N.Z. Insurance Co. gave particulars in regard to indemnity Insurance.—Council decided that all accident' insuranoe other than that for gias works employees be arranged for with this company. TOWN HALL COMMITTEE. This committee recommended that the following be added to the conditions on which the hall is let : "The scenery and its ropes and attachments belonging to the Council not to be moved or altered in any way without the permission of the caretaker. All stage appurtenances, other than those that may be carried by one man, to be placed on the stage Hy the means provided at the back of the hall. The caretaker, or his assistants, to turn off, the valves controlling the lighting of any portion of the building. Smoking in any part of the hall, or o»n stage, strickly prohibited. Three firemen, in uniform to be admitted free of charge, to all entertainments. Main doors )0 f hall to bje . kept locked, when not required for , purpose of admitting performers or public in connection with entertain- } ments. All damage caused to the building or fittings, to be made ! good by the hirer.—Approved. WORKS COMMITTEE. This committee recommended Front Fence at West Cemetery.— —The committee asks leave to sit ' again. ' The committee reports that it has authorised the construction, by the borougih. overseer, of a footpath along the Garden Place frontage of Mr Bain's property as far as the western corner of the building, at ' the level of the 'building/, stormj. water channel to be provided on outer edge of such footpath, and the path railed off from the per--1 manent level of Garden Place ; the ' whole of the cost to be refunded by Mr Hair. 1 That Mr E. Jones be notified ■ that the manhole and sewer connection from his building on section 5 pt. 106, must be altered and ma;ie in compliance with the requirements of the Council. The committee reports that it has instructed the Borough Engineer to arnaqgle for some small stormwater * drainage at the back of the Horse Baaaiar, opposite Goodfellow's proL perty, so as to carry the stormT sump connected i with the Silkirk-st. water from the building into the drain.
