Shearing is now in full swing all over this locality, and from all directions mat favourable reports aro received in regard both to the weight and condition of this season's fleeces. On the Landsdowne estate shearing operations are already over, close upon 5000 sheep having been put through, the quantity and quality of the wool being highly satiafast)ry. Preliminary to the taking o? the necessary poll in rogard to procuring the proposed Hungihuuga Drainage Board loan, a meeting of the local drainage area ratepayers was hell at Waharoa on Wednesday evening last, Mr T. Hanna in the chair. A considerable number of interested ratepavera we-p present. The Chairman read a telegram stating that the Government had agreed to grant the Hoard a subsidy of .£2OOO, after which it was unanimously decided to cordially assist the Hoard in the matter of the loan at the ensuing poll. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Greenslade and to those members who co-operated with him in obtaining the subsidy. At a similar meeting held in the Aratiatia schoolroom on the following evening it was also decide! to facilitate imtters for the Drainage board in regard to procuring the required loan from the Government.

The annual examination of the Gordon School was held on Thursday last, Inspector Stewart olliciating, but owing to several changes of teachers and to the school having been closed for a ccmiderable time during the last twelve months, the results wore not as satisfactory as could have been desired. Mr Downord, at present relieving at til s school, has, at the request of the looil school committee, been permanently appointed to its charge. The examination of the Aratiatia school held on the previous day was a moat successful one.

Mr Paton fiom Wairoa South, who recently purchasod Mr Younger's farm at Waharoa, has juattaken possession of his new place. Duiing the week, Mr Andrew Dihar's engine, boiler and general machinery arrived for his new Haxmill, whioh is at preseut in tho course of ereotion near Hinuera. The mill ia expected to be in active operation towards the end of the month.

In the native village at Waharoa there is at present another exceptlnilly big tangi going on over th" death of a young Maori woman of high nrnk, named Mary Wilson, a g. anddaughter of the once famous chief, Tauwhare Wilson, of East Coast fame. The t ingi is expected to last at least another fortnight, and will he attended by natives from all < vtr the Auckland Province.

The Piako County Council N at present forming the main road between Walton and Te Uru Whao, and Mr W. Eastwood, of Manawiru, has just secured the Waitoa Road Board's .£2OO contract of outting, forming and grading the Kerione-Morrina-ville roid.

In the Aratiatia schoolroom on Friday evening, a very popular dance waa held in aid of the funds of the Manawaru Cricket Club. Quito a large number were present, and the function was a most enjoyable and successful one, a good sum of money being realised ftr the local Cricket Club.
