PROPOSED LOIN OF £2500

Eacouraged by the keen interest that Air H. J. Greenslade, M.H.K., is displaying in ihu better reading of the '■ back blocks " districts, tho County Council is forwarding him a petition from the settlers on the Awaroa-Mahoe road, tor presentation to the Minister for Public Works, requesting a loan of .£2500 for widening and metalling tho road for a distance of ten miles and also a £ for £ subsidy on the same. It ia contended that the Awaroa-Mahoe is a main road of the Kawhia County, and that it ,vill be oue of tho main roads from Kawhia to iho railway for tourist traffic, as it leads past the Waitomo Cavei and some very fine scenery down to the Kawhia harbour. The land is •'loaded" to the extent of 3s per acre, but it ia claimed that after waiting six years the settlers only have a 6ft track part of the way. Mr Greenslade has signified his intention of arriving in Kawhia on Wednesday, and as this will be his final visit before Parliament opens, he i< to be deputationed upon various matters, including a further grant of £SO to complete the main road to the wharf.
