MISSION AT ST. PETER'S HAMILTON.
The various series of services were continued yesterday, and at each a steady increase of worshippers attended. In addition one of the missioners, the Rev. H. A. Favell, gave an address in the main street of the town, near Bright's Hotel at 12.30, his subject being " Jesus of Nazareth passeth by." It is announced that this will be continued each day of the mission. The subject at the mid-day service was the manner of Our Lord's dealing with the man in relation to the ten Commandments. Starting from the poiat of yesterday's* instruction, that repentance is a continuous realisation of the life of conversion, the Bishop tracud the growth of " the articles" of the Christian faith. For 1000 years the Church was united in its expression of the faith, and it is a fact demanding attention that the very divisions of Christians tend to present the | overstepping of the area of faith. The area ox right practice is where right belief lis found. Tha iuea of practice is defined in ! the decalogue. The decalogua is the Jewish ' lock, which is to be unlocked by the Christian key, the lirst demand being for the rendering of the heart. The Bishop again officiated throughout the evening service. Preachinij from Daniel V, 23—" The (iodin whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified "—he treated Belshazzar, to whom these words were spoken at h'_feast, as typic&l of the unrepenting soul. His sacrilege and the cajtousal ia which he showed himself Unsensible to the responsibilities of kingship were forms of the sin of materialism which, in other disguise was still the sin of to-day. With their lo„ aims, men thwarted the purpose of God for them, for there was no snch thing as irrosistable grace. The preacher then pointed to toe incarnation as the key to the mystery of human free will and Divide omnipotence.
