REMEDY FOR THE BOT FLY.
,TO THE EDITOR. } Sir,—A few weeks ago I noticed a paragraph in your paper referring to a horse that died in your district of the botfly. I was rather surprised to see that your people in such a flourishing district have no remedies to stop the bot fly from doing damage. I will supply the' following' particulars (1) During the'.season of the bot fly give the horse one peck of potatoes once a week during the season. If the horse is Already affected with griping, and biting, and in a condition notable to eat, then take 4 quarts of potatoes, wbsh and grate them, add a little water and pour down. In ten minutes the horse will be able to resume work ,as the potatoes make the bot fly leave his hold on the stomach. The above is an American method and has proved a successful remedy. (2) This is a remedy to kill the eggs. Mix a little water with kerosene. \\ ash the. part of the body where the eg&s are with the mixture. The kerosene instantly ruins the egg and even if the horse takes them in his stomach they are harmless,—l am, etc., Correspondent.
