London, October 27. Messrs Nelson Bros; state that'the result of the shipment of chilled beef confirms the belief that unless a temr perature 'of 22* is maintained mildew is certain. The Chilled Beef Syndicate intend to; carry out; further experiments. Melboupne, October 29. A letter : is published, in the Press from an Australian at present in London, He says he visited Smithfield,, and there he saw on sale frozen and chilled meat from; Australia, New Zealand and America. In his opinion Canterbury meat cannot be beaten. It seems to be perfect in size, condition and get up. The Queensland beef looks to be quite as good as the best American, but the Sydney meat he describes as rubbish, and says it is the cause of the whole of the Australian meat haying a bad name. Butchers make a trade of it, consequently any Australian meat has to suffer to the tune of a halfpenny to three farthings per pound.
