School INSI'KOTIO.V.—The annual examination in connection with the school, was held by Mr Crowe, 011 rhursday. every scholar put up, being successfully passed. This result is highly creditable to the teacher, .Miss Walter, particularly as the average attendance has been anything but good. The cause of this may be understood, when I mention that the nearest children live at least miles from the school, and some of them have to come over five miles to attend. The district is fortunate in possessing such a capable teacher. School Accommodation.—There is, 1 understand, mine probability of the present school being enlarged, or anew one erected. The attendance is now about 22 u ltli every likelihood of the number being increased, and the present building is altogether unsuitable. Social. —A very pleasant social came off upon last Fiiday, the school building being well filled with friends and visitors. The object was to obtain sufficient funds to purchase some necessary fittings for the harmonium, the entertninment proving— both financially and otherwise—most successful F.Ut.U NOTES.—Mow that the spring has fairly set in, our settlers arc hard at work getting their crops in, and in some cases skimming the land for summer turnips. The low prices ruling for potatoes have—as usual—proved most disappointing to growers. It would seem as if it is only in an odd season now and then that Waip.i settlers are to obtiin a fair return from potatoes. One of our grain-growers, Mr F. Vickers, lias just sold his wheat—of which, bv the way, lie had last year a capital crop (38 bushels to the acre)—the grain bringing Hi Hi per bushel in Auckland. This is certainly 110 fancy price, and goes to show that wheat has fallen since last harvest; at that time this grain would have brought, nt least, 4s. A fair amount of both wheat and oats will be grown in the district this year, as it has been amply proved that after turnips the crop does remarkably well with 11s,
