NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Newcastle Road Hoard was held on Wednesday, the 14th instant, at the office ot tho Board. Present: Messrs Gorhoy (chairman), Foxall, Blackett and Corbett. The mmutes of the last meeting wero read and confirmed. The inwaid and outward coi-e----pondence was read, and approved of; several alterations of names on the roll wore authorised as requested. The clerk was instructed to reply to the clerk of the Rugland County Council that the Board would consider the question of Mr George Little's mud and notify the Counc 1 as to what the Board could do in the matter. The following copy of a circular with petition enclosed was read :—Awatew Road Board, Blenheim, August lGth, 1802.—Subsidies to Local Bodies : Sir,—l have the honour to enclose yon herewith two copies of a petition on the above subject, which I am circulating throughout the colony among the various local bodies. I beg t.) request that y:m will kindly bring the matter under the notice of your Board and if they agree with its tenor kindly sign and return one copy of the petition to me, in order that it may be presented to the House at an early date, sending the other copy to the member for your district, with a request that he will support the same.—l have the honour to be Sir, your obediont sorvant, H. D. Vavasour, chairman.—lt was unanimously resolved : " That alter having carefully considered the circular and petition sent for signature by tho Awatere Koad Board as a remonstrance against the statement of the Colonial Treasurer on the occasion of his reference to the " Subsidies to Local Bodies" in his Financial Statement, this lioard fails to discover any just cause for alarm or apprehension as i-.tited in the petition, and having dua regard for consistency and justice must decline to authorise the pettion being signed.
