Bcir.niNGS.—Mr Kendnll is having a large shed erected on his allotment in Wallis--Btreet. which is to be used fur the purpose of storing timber, &c. Contracts. —The tender of Mr I), UalTan fur the formation ot footpaths in the township was accepted at the price of 10 s per chain. The acceptance of the tenders for wharf ballast has not yet been decided. Roi'K Wat.k—ln connection with his flax-tmll at Wainni, Mr KendeU is starting the manufacture of rope, and has engaged practical hands for that purpose, the machinery for which is expected to arrive during this week. This being another local industry started, it is hoped that it will be successful. The flax-mill at this place has been kept going during the winter, and considerable quantities of flax have been turned out. The mill dam, which was damaged recently by a heavy flood, has been repaired. Klax. —A large quantity of flax is now waiting at Aotea, belonging to Messrs Langley 8r03., for shipment to Auckland. As yet they have been unable to get a vessel to take it away, but are trying to get the service of ouo of the Waitar.i steamers, as the Northern Company boats do not go into that port. S.s. Glenhlg.—This steamer arrived from Onehunga on Wednesday last with a general cargo for this place. She proceeded direct back to Onehunga after unloading, taking a load of flax, etc. As the s.s. Uairloch is going to Wellington for overhaul and repairs, the Glenelg will take her pi, 'ice for a time, and in consequence will not be here again for three weeks or so. Cultivation'. —Now that spring has come round once more, settlors are everywhere busy in preparing and getting in their crops. Oats for hay have been planted, early potitoes put in, and the imin crop is being planted. Grass is abundant throughout the district, and loi.ks especially sve.llin the bush clearings. The peich and plum trees are in full bloom. The farmer seem to have taken a new lease of life, and bid fair to yield a heavy crop this season.
