Mr Parker, oF Messrs Huddart and Parker, of Sydney, arrives in Auckland, cm Wednesday, to arrange for tlio inauguration of a service to compete with the Union Steamship Company in tho intercolonial trade. Two five thousand ton steamers have already been built, and they expect to commence the service about Christmas with greatly reduced fares.

A 10 roomed house, the residence of Mrs Symonds, widow of Judge Symonds, wa.s burned at Onehunga. Nothing was saved. The building was insured for A,'l">o in the South British, and the furniture for tloO in tlie same office.

At Messrs Cochrane and Sons" mart, today, 120 acres of laud at Makaran, were sold at 2s per acre, while 5-1 acres at Maungataniwha brought s^yd. Other lots of country lands were passed in, there being no bids.
