HUNTLY V. PATERANGI.

TO THB EDITOR. Sib, —As a letter from Mr J. B. Harris in your last issue blioivs a disposition on the part of Huntly to proclaim the news of Paterangi ignominious defeat on Saturdty, and an attempt to convince a guileless public how unavailing and usiless it is for Waikato Clubs to expect anything but a 30 point defeat from the doughty boys of the Black Diamond township, I humbly beg to offer the following as some causes that contributed to our defeat:—There wt re absent from our team, A. Kusabs, the fatest runner and surest back we have, D. G. Cruickshank and C. Kusab, our best three-quarters, and W. Macky generally considered our best forward. These two latter are Waikato " reps." Again in our previous match with Whatawhat* several of our inen had been disabled and were really unfit to play. Yet again the want of interest in the result (being already out of caps) was not conducive to any particularly brilliant play on the part of Paterangi. The narrowness of HuntlyV former win b-';ir-out what I say, that list Saturday's win was not a fair test, and should Huntly and Paterangi meet aeaiu (which bye the bye is not likely, as- Paterangi, I understand, will not place a team in the field next season), 1 repeat should they meet again on fair and even te'im. Huntly's victory on Saturday would be nullified by Paterangi's victory then. In conclusion, there is a rumour afloat that we gave the match away, but this, as a member of the team, I emphatically deny.—Yours, etc. Forward.
