CAMBRIDGE JOCKEY CLUB AUTUMN MEETING.

The race meeting of to-morrow and Thursday, which takes place on the couise of the above Club at Gwynnelands promises, without exception, to be the most successful which has ever been held in Waikato. The programme, with the handsome prize* for each event, is one of which the club and the district may well bo proud. Ths sporting public of Waikato havo been looking foiwaid to the coming meeting for some tune, and nc>t only do they promise to b3 favoured with exceptionally fine weather for the outing, but wo tln'nk the time has been so fixed as not to interfere with fanning operations, thus enabling all who desue to attend to do so without what may be termed ruinous loss of time and inconvenience. The Stewards and their eneigetic secretary Mr Scott, have been exerting themselves to get everything in pioper order for the meeting, and among the many improvements which they have effected since the last races we might notice the painting and repairing of the grand stand and picket fence, and the replacing of the unsightly lope fence opposite the stand by a substantial rail barrier. They have also at considerable expense, as suggested in these columns some time ago; trimmed the thorn fences along the road and in the paddock, which at previous meetings proved Mich an obstruction to the \ lew, especially in steeplechase events. The course ib in excellent condition, though possibly a little hard through the coutinous fine weather. No doubt the attendance on both days will be very large, and thoroughly representative of the district. Most of the Auckland horses have already arrived. Some of the loose bo\es in Mr Carter's stables ai c occupied by Whitiora, Normanby, Maon, R.mgipo, Radames, Gilderoy, Taupin, Old Ireland, Fi-heiboy, and Anteios hlly. At Mr Kirk wood's stables there aie Administrator, Consul, Larry, Snake, and Patnai eh colt. At Mr AllwuTs stables Vii'tom, Victory, and f^uilp, and at Mr Jiio. Brown's stables Whalebone, Alpha, and Tidal Wave. All the horses in training at Cambridge are, with few exceptions, ii excellent condition, and the \.mous eventb piomise to be well contested. Regaiding the betting, little can as yet be &aid, and the local market is exceedingly dull. Very little will be done until the anival of the books tins evening, when matters of this nature will doubtless take an interesting turn. Theie will be a totalizator on the ground. An advertisement .stating the older of riinnmsr appears in another column. In another column the W.C. and S. Company ad\eiti^e that the p.s. Delta will run to tho racecouise landing, conveying passengois from Ngaruawalna and Hamilton. The time for leaving the racecourse on the 1 etui n join ney has been altered to 5 p.m.
