CRICKET.
The cricket season in Hamilton was opened on Saturday' with n. match between a picked eleven and an all-comers team. The former was captained by Mr Wood, captain of the Club, and the latter, which numbered eighteen players had been got together and was directed by Mr W. Tonks. The weather was a little unpropitious ; light showers of rain fell at intervals, though they were not of a character to near the day's sport. The ground was in much better order than it has been for some time. Mr Wood won the toss, and sent his men to the wioket first. They succeeded in putting 94 runs together before the last wicket fell. Of this number W. Hunt made 13, Wood 19, and Langdale 20 (not out). The bowling was fairly go»d, Tonks taking fiye wickets, Meachem three, and Williams two. The all-comers did not make a verj brilliant display at the wickets; their total score only amounted to 59. The highest individual score (12) was made by T. G. Sandes, and W. K. Ewen and R. N. Buttle came next with six each. Wood, Gleeson, Pilling, and Langdale bowled in turn. The following are the scores : —
