TE RORE.

A PTTBiuic meeting of the inhabitants of Te Rore waa held according to advertisement at the school-house on Saturday evening, the 12th instant, to consider the advisability of requesting the Government to survey a few village allotments from the reserve at the east side of the bridge now being built at Te Rore. Mr Ligertwood being placed in the chair, opened matters by reading the advertisement in the Waikato Times convening the meeting. — Mr E. G. McMinn brought forward as a resolution, "That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable that a village be surveyed at Te Rore, and the allotments offered for sale at as early a date as possible. " In supporting the resolution, Mr McMinn said that the bridge site being finally fixed at Te Rore, and the future connection "between the two banks of the Waipa permanently settled thereby, it was time to move the Government to afford persons the opportunity of settling on this, the natural site for a country village. The whole of the settlers on the west side must necessarily come to this point, and it would meet an expressed want of the place. The land now being offered for sale by Government, it was hoped, would bring m now settlers, and warrant the asking the reasonable request contained in the resolution. — The resolution being briefly seconded by Mr Dillon, was carried unanimously. — The following resolution was also duly carried : "That a committee be formed from those present to lay the matter before the Waste Lands Board." — Before the committee was chosen, several persons in the meeting expressed an opinion for the guidance of the committee, that it was not desirable to have a large quantity of land cut up, as a quantity of unoccupied allotments was a serious drawback to any village — that it would be better if the surrounding land was either sold or leased, so as to induce occupation. The following names were placed for the committee : — Messrs Robinson, McMinn, Dillon, Ligertwood, Krippner, and Maunder. The customary votes to the chair terminated the meeting. The committee immediately after met, and made their arrangements for bringing the matter before the Waste Lands Board at once.— [Correspondent, March 12.]
