VALEDICTORY.
A farewell social was tendered the Rev. J. and Mrs Field, who are leav ing for Methveu, Canterbury, in the local Methodist church on Monday night, sth April. Rev. A. .Peters, of Invercargill, presided, and among Hie visitors was Rev. W. T, Hooper, of Riccarton, Canterbury, and formerly of Riverton. During the evening the Sunday School prizes were distributed to the children by Mrs Field (Superintendent), after* which selections were given by the choir and solos by Mesdames Stevens, Field, McCall, and Thomas, and duets by Mesda tries Field and Thomas, Stevens and Thomas, and Cant, and Mrs Thomas. Interesting speeches were given by the Chairman and Revs. Hooper and Field. Miss M. Robertson rendered the accompaniments in her. usual . fficaent manner. At a suitable interval Rev, Peters, on behalf of the congregation, presented the Rev. J. and Mrs Field with a substantial cheque. The Minister and Stewards of the Church presented Rev. Peters with two books. Supper was then handed round, after which a very pleasant evening terminated.
